Andrew Spence
American, 1947-

From his first exhibition in Los Angeles in the mid-1970s, Andrew Spence has pursued a hard-edge abstraction with work that is densely textured, richly colored and often with irregularly shaped canvas.

Spence, who lives in New York City, was born and raised in Philadelphia, and took undergraduate study at the University of Oklahoma and at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia.  Then he earned an MFA at the University of California at Santa Barbara.  In addition to his fine art career, he has been a teacher with employment at Bennington College.
