Anton Sipos
American, born 1938Anton Sipos was born in Bosnia, 1938. He began drawing at an early age, leaving home in his early teens to support himself as a film animation artist. His first work "Surrogate" won an Academy Award for best-animated short subject under the direction of Yugoslav animator Dushon VuKotic.
In 1964 he moved to Montmartre to study at L'Ecole de Paris. During his visit he exhibited regularly at Le Salon d'Automne and Le Salon d'Artistes Francaises at the Grand Palais. He made several painting trips throughout Europe to Italy, Provence, Giverny, Rouen and the Cote d'Azure.
In 1970 Sipos arrived in California where he painted scenes of Los Angeles and the San Diego Harbor. He also worked as an artist for the movie industry, most notably with Eleanor Ettinger Studio in New York transposing Norman Rockwell's original oils to lithographic plates. He held his first major New York exhibition at the Jasper Gallery on 57th Street in 1977.
He currently paints in California looking to his family, friends and travels throughout Europe, Mexico, New England, and the American West for subject matter. His most recent works are dominated by bright yellows, oranges, reds, and blues, exploring the California Coast from Carmel to La Jolla.
