Jean Eugene Clary
French, 1856-1930In 1856 Jean Eugene Clary was born in Paris, France. He was a pupil of Cesar de Cock, a Belgian painter who worked in Normandy. Eugene first debuted at the Salon of French Artists in 1883, and he received a Gold Medal in 1890. He was a member of the Societe Nationale. As with so many painters of his period, Clary evolved into the Impressionist Movement, painting many scenes in Normandy and Rouen, especially focusing on river scenes, including the Seine.
Clary exhibited regularly at the Galleries George Petit, Bernheim, Reitlinger and in London. He exhibited in many salons, including The National Society of Arts and the Society of French Artists. He has works in the Musee de Lisieux. He gradually became blind and did not paint after 1908. Music was his refuge up to his death in Les Andelys in 1930.
