Joseph Jost
Austrian, 1888-1969Joseph Jost was a portrait and quiet life painter in Vienna. He was born in Vienna in1888. First Jost began a self-instruction, in which he analyzed the old masters exactly and began to interpret it new. He studied at the Vienna Academy from 1908 through 1918 each year he showed his works at the exhibitions of the Circle of the Viennese Artists. Starting from 1914 Jost visited the Viennese academy in the master class of Rumplers.
During the war Jost was assigned war painters and the KuK war press accommodations. He painted portraits; the Genaraloberst of Koevess and further important military personalities. He also took part in the Great Exhibition of the Berlin Beaux Arts in 1916.
After the war Jost dedicated himself almost exclusively to the quiet life subject. After 1919 Jost appeared almost regularly in exhibitions painting his masterly quiet still lifes, which cover primarily flowers, fruit, vegetable, fish and poultry.
