Jules Justin Claverie
French, 1859-1932

Claverie was born in Marseilles, where he lived until his death in 1932. He was a painter of landscapes, landscapes with figures, seascapes and still-lifes. He attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Marseilles under the instruction of Dominique Antoine Magaud. He exhibited from 1897 until 1931 at the Salon des Artistes Français, and was awarded a gold medal and declared hors concours in 1923. He partook in many regional exhibitions and was professor of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Marseilles.

His paintings are now part of the permanent collections of the Musee des Beaux-Arts de Marseille, Musee des Beaux-Arts de Dijon, and Aubagne in Nice.
