Leonard Moore Davis

American, 1864-1938

Leonard Moore Davis was born in Winchendon, Massachusetts on May 8, 1864. He also painted extensively in the national parks. He went to New York City College and then worked as a printer and wood finisher until 1884 when he enrolled in the Art Students League in New York City for five years. Then he studied in Paris at Ecole des Beaux-Arts and Academie Julian under Jean Paul Laurens, Jules Lefebvre.

An itinerant artist, after 1898, he made many trips to Alaska and specialized in Alaskan scenes as well as landscapes of the Canadian Rockies and the United States national parks. About 1930 he settled in Los Angeles where he remained until his death on May 5, 1938.
