Maurice Walter Edmond de Lambert
French, 1873-1952

Maurice at a very young age, he shows his taste and facilities for drawing. He is a pupil of Gustave Moreau and Georges-Antoine Rochegrosse, and receives advice from Albert Besnard and Félix Bracquemond.

He began in illustration with illuminations for two works: La Légende du Beau by Victor Hugo and Le Chevalier double by Théophile Gautier. He draws the shadows and sets for several shows in Montmartre. He produced for the publisher Manzi a large number of full-length portraits of actors: Sarah Bernhardt, Sacha Guitry, Réjane, Coquelin [Which one?], Etc.

Lambert was also interested in the art of typography, drawing vignettes for Grasset characters. His painting was often exhibited, both in Paris and abroad: Brussels, New York, Madrid1.
