Richard Arthur Muller
American, 1928-1991

He was born November 24, 1928, in Morristown, N.J. He earned his bachelor's degree from Syracuse University in 1951 and his master of fine arts degree from the University of Oregon in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Muller began his career as an animator in San Francisco. He moved to Portland in 1959 and was one of the first instructors in the Portland State University art department. He was instrumental in developing drawing and painting as fields of study.

Besides his interest in animation, drawing and painting, Mr. Muller was involved in combining painting and sculpture in wood, creating in what are called 'doubleplanes.'

His works had been exhibited in museums and galleries on the West Coast. Recently, Mr. Muller had been involved in creating mixed-media shaped-wall pieces on aluminum.
