Samuel David Landau
American, 1895-1979

Samuel David Landau was born in Warsaw, Poland, and emigrated to the United States as a child. Landau was a Works Progress Administration artist, studied at the Graphic Sketch Club in Philadelphia with contemporaries Sol Wilson and Phil Reisman, was influenced early on in his career by the Spanish Civil War, and was professionally known as Lev-Landau. He worked primarily in oil and casein.

Museums and Exhibitions:

ACA Galleries in New York; the 1951 Annual of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; the Carnegie Institute of Pittsburgh (now the Carnegie Museum of Art); the 1951 Biennial at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC (which has since merged with the National Gallery of Art); the National Academy of Design between 1951 and 1956.
