Frederick Charles Freder
American, 1895-1954Frederick Charles Freder was an American painter and designer. Since 1942, Mr. Freder had been an animation artist for motion-picture training film drawings made at the Signal Corps Pictorial Center in Long Island City, Queens. Mr. Freder was born in Monroe, N. Y. He studied at the National Academy of Design here before and after World War I, in which he saw action with the Army in France. In 1919 and 1920, Mr. Freder won first prizes in drawing competitions at the academy. In 1920, he was the recipient of a Pulitzer traveling scholarship in painting. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris, in 1920-22, and later in Spain, Germany, Italy and Iran, Mr. Freder's oil paintings were exhibited in local galleries and at the museum of the San Diego (Calif.) Fine Arts Society. Much of his work was scenic. He did art work in connection with motion-picture film production and also did advertising art work.
