Robert Chailloux
French, 1913-2005

Robert Chailloux was a French still life painter. His oeuvre bears a systematic approach, wherein vases, fruits, flowers, and silverware appear perched atop a wooden table, rendered in the Dutch Vanitas style and set against an eroding stucco wall. In his later years, however, he deviated from his earlier compositions, including a greater variety of objects such as figurines, musical instruments, and accoutrement in a cooler, more vibrant color scheme. Born on April 23, 1913 in Paris, France, he went on to study at the École des Arts Décoratifs. He exhibited regularly before his death in 2006, including at the Hermitage in Leningrad and the Pushkin in Moscow in 1975, and his work was acquired by the City of Paris and the Museum of the Ile-de-France.
