James George Weiland
American, 1872-1968A portrait painter and illustrator, James Weiland was born in Toledo, Ohio the son of a sash factory foreman. He studied at the Academy Colarossi in Paris, the Royal Academy in Munich, and the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design in New York.
He exhibited at the Chicago Art Institute, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the National Academy of Design and the Society of Independent Artists
Weiland was associated with the Brooklyn Society of Artists and the Lyme Art Association, in addition to being a member of the Society of Independent Artists. By 1917 he was living in New York.
