L. Gilmour Junior was a student of Le Pho, the renowned Vietnamese artist. Gilmour adopted his master’s techniques and was drawn to similar subjects.  Mainly painting figures within interiors and still lives.   This painting of a still life is typical of Gilmour’s oeuvre.  Gilmour also used loose brushwork as does Le Pho.  Gilmour applied paint thicker in some areas, especially in the floral arrangement to suggest the textures of the flowers.
