Pierre Roux
American, 1932

Pierre Roux was born in the picturesque quarter of Menil-montant in Paris and was introduced to the world of art through his father, a painter in Montmartre. Roux went on to study art in Paris, specializing in fresco painting and the making of stain glass windows. His interest and talent in a variety of media have led him most recently to work in lithography. His first one-man show was held in Paris in 1960 at the Galerie Bassano, which also accorded him in a one-man show each year for the four years following.

Since that time the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the City of Avignon have made purchases of his work. Additional one-man shows have been held in Paris, throughout France, in Switzerland and in New York where one-man shows were held at the Van der Straeton Gallery in 1969 and ‘70 and at the Eric Galleries in ‘72 and ‘73.

The 1973 New York show brought the artist himself to the United States. He was impressed with the “Dynamic Force” of New York and “Fell in Love” with the sunlight of the California Coast. Both locations have provided inspiration and subject for his work.
